If your child has either frequent or severe headaches that is cause enough to take him to a doctor. Recurrent headaches can be a sign of something very serious in children. Be prepared when you visit the doctor: know your family’s medical history, be able to give all the details concerning the headache.

Constant teasing and tormenting can be devastating to a child and when that child has some type of physical infirmity, then that compounds the problem even more. Some physical abnormalities cannot be fixed until a child reached adulthood or stops growing. Luckily, those children afflicted with large or projecting ears can have cosmetic ear surgery to correct the problem. Other ear infirmities like extra large ear lobes or shell ear where the cartilage may not have completely finished forming the ear are also cause for cosmetic ear surgery.

Good sleep habits for kids are as important as they are an essential for health, proper growth and well-being. Children, who get plenty of sleep every night function better throughout the day, are more alert, and their concentration, memory, and performance are better than those who don’t sleep well. As well children with sleep problems are less likely to develop behavioral problems of any kind, moodiness, anxiety or depression.

During the school year, millions of children walk around school carrying backpacks filled with books and materials (to say nothing of carrying their heavy backpack to and from school). It is important for parents to be aware of the strain this places on their child’s back. A backpack is useful in that allows the child to carry more than they would be able to with only their hands. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that placing too many books and other items in the backpack will eventually cause more harm than good.

Most children are going to come in to contact with someone that will have a cold virus. Most children will have as many as eight colds a year. Tiny droplets in the air easily spread the cold bacteria after someone has coughed or sneezed. They will be exposed to cold bacteria everywhere they go, and if they are around smokers, they will probably have more colds.

Back pain is so common at any age but kids and teens are much more resilient than adults and can bounce back much quicker. Adults have a much harder time recovering and dealing with a back injury and are prone to more severe back issues than those under 25 years old. It is actually very uncommon for children to be sufferers of chronic or debilitating back pain or problems. There are so few cases of childhood back problems and pain in fact that pediatricians take any back pain complaint very seriously and usually results in an immediate evaluation and examination. If there is a significant finding or extra tests need to be performed than usually the first course of action is an X-ray or MRI with a referral to a specialist to make sure if there are any problems they are immediately identified and taken care of before any permanent damage is done.

After the cold, an ear infection is the second most common complaint of small children and infants. About 75% of children experience at least one ear infection when they are three years old. The inner ear is what translates vibrations into signals that are sent to the brain and interpreted as sound. The pressure in the inner ear should be the same as the outside world. The Eustachian tube, a small passage that connects the middle ear to the back of the throat behind the ear, equalizes the air before it reaches the inner ear.
